Cardamom is one of the world's oldest spices and dates back to more than 4,000 years. Our green cardamom or Elettaria cardamomum is called "true cardamom" and is sweeter with a more robust flavor than its smoky counterpart, black cardamom Amomum cardamomum .
Cardamom is packed with antioxidants. Much research has been conducted into the medicinal claims for which cardamom is lauded. There is good evidence that it helps reduce bad cholesterol (LDL), and around the world, it is said to aid in digestion, can be used to freshen breath, helps with hypertension, and helps detoxify the body through its antimicrobial astringency.
Green cardamom is zesty and citrusy and pairs well with ginger, clove, peppercorn, citrus, cinnamon, full bodied coffee, black tea, and many savory and sweet culinary dishes. It is also found in our Caffeinated and Non-Caffeinated spicy chai masala blends.
Brewing instructions- for mild tea, whole pods may be used; for stronger tea, break pods with garlic press or mortar and pestle, and remove seeds (can crush lightly with a mortar and pestle for even more flavor).
4 whole pods or 1/4-1/2 tsp of seeds steeped in fresh water at 195° for 5-8 minutes, depending upon desired taste. Can be drunk alone or blended with other spices, teas, and milks, for a soul soothing, healthy beverage.
